CANCLINI CULTURAS HIBRIDAS PODERES OBLICUOS PDF

Stephen D. NAFTA, neoliberalism and even neoindigenismo in Chiapas have all challenged past perceptions of self and other in Mexico. Rooted in the postmodernist importance of the other in shaping identity, this essay explores themes in contemporary Mexican images of the United States-- Mexico's predominant other-- as found in written editorials and illustrations from the Mexican press during recent moments in Mexican-U. The discussion first maps out the theoretical setting, raising questions about the importance of Mexican perceptions of its northern neighbor and recent changes in those perceptions. The essay then explores and interprets the major themes portrayed by the Mexican press during the period under review. Despite recent indications that Mexico has nurtured a new, more modern view of the United States, perceptions of the United States as power-hungry, hypocritical, and anti-Mexican still inform the public discourse.

Pierre Bourdieu in Hispanic Literature and Culture

Editorial Atlante. Pays most attention to Spanish and Spanish-American thinkers. Ferrater belongs to a brilliant generation of youths who, in the warmth of the spiritual renaissance of Spain before the war —which, from the beginnings in Spain, now afflicts the world— dedicated themselves seriously and sincerely to the purest tasks of speculation. For the first time since the great epochs, and after a heroic effort of eighty years, there has arisen in the centers of the most important activities, intellectual groups composed of teachers and pupils who, united in colleges, are, with most rigid discipline, devoted to problems of science and philosophy.
