And certainly not careers in magic. Shy, studious Persephone Leland would far rather devote herself to her secret magic studies than enter society and look for a suitable husband.

But right as the inevitable season for "coming out" is about to begin, Persy and her twin sister discover that their governess in magic has been kidnapped as part of a plot to gain control of the soon-to-be Queen Victoria.

Racing through Mayfair ballrooms and royal palaces, the sisters overcome bad millinery, shady royal spinsters, and a mysterious Irish wizard. User reviews 5 reviews. Already have an account? Reader reviewed by Emily Ruth Persephone Leland doesn't feel comfortable about her "coming out" into society, quite the opposite of that which her charming twin, Penelope Leland, is feeling.

In fact, the Honorable Misses Leland haven't ever had much in common. Their one similarity is quite uncommon: Magic. But with the unexplained disappearance of their beloved governess, the sisters grow slack in the secrecy of their talent. It doesn't help that Persephone's childhood crush has returned, dashing as ever and much more mature than when they were thirteen.

His arrival and the unveiling of a plot to control the Princess Victoria set off a spiral of events that weaves love, magic, loyalty, and scandal. Yes, I judged it by the cover which is However, Doyle's pleasant writing made me feel as if I, too, were a Leland sister from the beginning well, at least, once I got the names straight.

But make no mistake, it's not all poppies and pleasantries! Bewitching Season held me until the end. I honestly couldn't put it down. I suffered with Persephone until everything was settled it's got a nice little twist I must say! Bewitching Season should be much more popular than it is! You'll find it delightful if you enjoyed The Luxe books : A sequel will be released in May.

But when their governess her name is Ally goes missing, the sisters and their eleven year old brother search for Ally in London. But when they encounter Sir John Conroy and Princess Sophia they fall into even greater danger though they were in danger already. Along the way Persephone and her sister will go to dances, Tea, and meet Princess Victoria. They have to stick together to find Ally and with help of a close friend, they just may be able to defeat the bad guys.

Bewitching Season was very well written. For Marissa Doyles first novel it was fantastic. I loved that Persephone was a 18 year old girl that reads and enjoys books better than going to balls and to tea. I didnt dislike anything in this book, I loved every single page.

Bewitching Season was one of those books that you had to keep on reading even if your favorite TV show was on or that it one oclock in the morning. It was an absolute page turner. I cant wait until the next book comes out Betraying Season will come out spring I would recommend this book to girls that are 12 and up that love history and magic. A Sweet, Fluffy Story. September 29, Reader reviewed by Mairi Persephone "Persy" Leland is about to begin her first season.

She is now a member of London society, subject to the scrutiny of all- but Persy must be particularly careful because she, like her twin sister Pen, is a witch. The last execution for witchcraft was a hundred years ago, but no one will marry Persy if they no the truth. I have wanted to read this book ever since I read a review of it somewhere, but when the town library bought a copy and I got my first good look at the cover I grew doubtful- it screamed "here be pointless romance".

I read it anyway, though, and I couldn't be more glad I did- I loved everything about it. This book does contain a fair bit of romance, but it certainly isn't pointless- in fact, I loved it and wished that all fluff was written this well. Charmed, I'm Sure! August 10, Reader reviewed by Julie M. Prince Bewitching Season put an unexpected spell on me. I was immediately charmed by the main character, Persephone Leland, and by her twin sister, Penelope. Some books with witches as main characters seem to be centered around the magic, which is interesting, but only for a limited time.

This book has a good strong plot entirely separate from Persys witchiness. Theres no doubt it would be a good book even without that one component. As a reader, I need to care about the character and her problems. If one of her problems just happens to be related to witchcraft, Im that much more intrigued by her story. And Persys problems definitely fit the bill for intrigue.

Her shyness about to be exposed by her presentation to the queen , her crush on a childhood buddy who has a prejudice against witches , and the mysterious disappearance of her familys governess, to name a few. The author deftly suspends disbelief, taking us through plot point after plot point as she weaves tales of historical figures with witchcraft and mystery.

Whats not to love? Speaking of love, Persys own fallacies in regard to her secret heart's desire are endearing and familiar to anyone who has had a crush. This is a book well worth picking up, and I suspect its sequel will be worth the wait too. February 28, Reader reviewed by the book muncher Persephone and Penelope Leland are twins in early nineteenth century London.

To the rest of the world, they are beautiful young women who are about to make their debut into society and then search for suitable husbands. But what most people dont know is that the women of the Leland family are known for their magical abilities. The twins study magic under the careful tutorage of their governess Ally. While they are usually very close, Persephone and Penelope start to have secrets from each other. Penelope is extremely excited about making her debut into London society, but Persephone would rather continue studying magic.

But one day, Ally suddenly disappears. The twins get repeated nightmares about their governess, which leads them to think Ally is in grave danger.

So, with the help of their younger brother Charles and also Allys family, they try to devise a plan to find out Allys whereabouts. Now, I dont want to start gushing in an overenthusiastic way, but I have to say that Bewitching Season had everything I was looking for in a book.

The characters were very realistic, and so was the description of London society. The magical aspect of the book never seemed phony, which was refreshing. I enjoyed reading the story which was primarily told from Persephones perspective, and the romantic twist was the cherry on top of a delicious read. What I particularly enjoyed was that the storyline was never too predictable; I have read so many books now that I can often guess what will happen next in the story.

But Bewitching Season truly kept me guessing, and I loved how the ending was not what I expected. I also cannot wait until the continuation of the story in Maiden Voyage.
