While extensive use of examples is a very useful feature of this book, the case studies in these sections are particularly valuable because that is the source of much consultancy work. This book does cover a good range of topics, but I find the delivery of explanations to be difficult to follow. This is partly the formatting of the book - it looks like the whole thing was done in microsoft word, complete with 'microsoft picture' drawings, but I think also find the manner in which concepts are communicated are neither fully comprehensive or completely abridged, leaving the reader in limbo between understanding the full first principles, to being baffled in a half-explanation.

I just think the older books Freeze and Cherry, Fetter, Huisman etc cover the same topics but do it more elegantly. I got this book because its more recent than the aforementioned books - this would only be a benefit to the numerical modelling techniques that have developed over the past couple of decades, but again this book only treats the fundamental equations, which are set out in the earlier texts more clearly. For the budding nunmerical modelling, I'd recommend the classic texts plus manuals on the model you are using rather than this text.

It aint bad, its just no classic. The author has made a great effort of presenting the subject matter in an easy to understand and read format. The text covers basic laboratory determination of hydrogeological paratmers to complex calculations and modeling.

This book is great because there have been times when I have been working on a problem effective poristy, density and saturation and have been able to find an example of it in this book. The text covers one dimensional steady state flow, transient flow, flow nets etc.. Cooper Jacob method, drawdown, well efficiency and numeric groundwater flow modeling. I highly recommend this book.
