Hi, I have a question about my old GT I've recently started running nitro buggies just for fun, I'm not a racer and I'm having trouble with setting my engine up. After a lot of tinkering I've reached a point where I'm not sure what to investigate next. The engine fired and ran fine but after shutting a wide throttle opening the engine would die. I've tried different fuels and glow plugs but it's now at a point where it only runs with the starter on the plug. I fitted an OS no.

By Dougl , June 15, in General - Nitro. I've dug out two cars I had in a much younger life, one, a Tamiya Terra Crusher, with a little help from the local model shop has come back life perfectly so far!
Its around 20 years old I think, give or take. Its a Kyosho, self build, came with a clear body shell that needed painting. All original parts, except the air filter which I stuck on last week. Any help would be much appreciated! I've attached a couple of photos, have more if needed, but don't want to over load with too many pics straight away.
Started first time and runs like a dream! Is that the original she'll as I don't have one? No idea what ones will fit it. Hi there, I've recently rediscovered the joy of nitro RC cars after the best part of 20 years! Looks like we have the same car! Yes, that the original shell, bit tatty now though!
Seems like body shell maybe fairly generic though, spoke to my local model shop and they reckon they could easily get one to fit. Super ten definitely rings a bell! Thanks for all the help everyone, brilliant to know what it actual is now!
Super ten is if I recall slightly bigger then a stock I have my original escort cosworth shell. Its a bit battered, would like to get it all new looking! I'm not sure. Measure your wheel Base and compare to what's available, there must be some that will work.
I ain't messed with nitros in a long time. Been looking around a lot and earlier suggestions of sandmaster seem right. I worked out how to raise the suspension today and now much better on the grass. Also ordered a few sets of hex adapters for wheels and a set of new wheels and tyres. Not seen a shell yet but made a cover from a sheet of plastic of the window of a toy box. Using what everyone's been saying I spent a while last night googling vintage Kyosho, the SuperTen tends to come up as the FW04 model, a slightly newer car, but more importantly, produced during the internet era.
So this dominates search results. What I have is though 'Kyosho SuperTen Sports GP Version', it released in the early-mid 90's with a range of shells, but the same chassis, the Impreza, Ford Cosworth and a couple of other popular rally cars at the time. Its been described elsewhere as the cousin of the Sandmaster MK II, sharing the same chassis, and engine, but with different wheels. I'm pretty sure that the parts that fit one will fit the other.
I've also tracked down some old Kyosho manuals, including for a Ford RS, which has the same engine and allowed me to work out how to retune it. It seems you'll struggle to get bodyshells as K mentioned its a , but not a true , in length I've seen written elsewhere its closer to , however width wise its larger than a normal !
Going to get some bits for it this month and hopefully get it up to scratch again. The engine fired up after a couple of attempts, so with some TLC I think it'll be good as new! My latest update is I have another one on the way with an escort cosworth shell, I also found out that the noise mine made rattle was a worn spur gear.
I managed to track down 5 spares from an international rc company at considerable cost but figured seeing as I will have two of them soon I might as well get all their stock. I got a body too and fitment is close but the rear wheels are an inch too far back.
I may make some foam wide arches and stick them on. I also want to do a twin rear exit exhaust so looking at copper tubing as an option. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.
